The manufacturing industry is the economic and technical backbone of Germany. It also takes a leading position on an international scale.
The current dynamics of exploitation of important mineral resources, which cannot continue as such, as well as the significant negative effect on our environment by modern human activity on earth, favour more and more another optimization criterion for production technology: energy and resource efficiency.
The projects of the Innovation Alliance are provided for a period of three years (starting January 1st 2010). The research budget of the participating companies amounts to approx. 100 million €. Of these, 30 million € are invested in joint projects.
The Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF
) supports the initiative in the framework concept "Research for Tomorrow's Production" with 15 million €. Under the grant number 02PO2700 et seq., the promoter (PTKA-PFT
) supervises the initiative.
The Innovation Alliance communicates the latest research results of the corresponding BMBF funding priority. In the 30 cooperative projects, more than 60 companies and research institutes are working together.
The project coordination is held by Volkswagen AG in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU
